The 2014 Trotanoy has quite a gourmand bouquet with dried blood and truffle infusing the red fruit, a little forward for my liking. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, robust and stocky with cranberry and strawberry fruit laced with black pepper and clove, leading to a harmonious but structured finish that will require several years in bottle. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. 2024 - 2055
Spellbinding aromas of flowers such as lilacs and honeysuckle with strawberries and blackberries. Full-bodied, super tight and polished with wonderful finesse and length. Seamless, fine tannins give this endless mouthfeel. Drink in 2022.
Tasted blind. Thick and heavy. Edgy. Some meat-extract notes. Definitely earthbound. Chewy and vegy.
Drink 2023-2033
Trotanoy is one of the top names of the Pomerol appellation and is has been made by the Jean-Pierre Moueix company since the 1950's. Deep purple colour. Dark black cherry fruits, leather and dark chocolate on the complex nose. Very powerful on the palate, with fleshy red and black cherries, boysenberries and creamy vanilla from new oak. Warm, soft and round with no hard edges. Velvety mouthfeel with real ripeness and intensity on the finish. A very accomplished, seductive wine.
Dense, featuring a loamy edge that runs throughout, while the core of crushed plum, fig and blackberry fruit plays out slowly. Licorice root and warm stone notes pervade the finish. A bit brooding, but give this time, as the lurking fresh bay, tobacco and iron elements should develop with age. Best from 2020 through 2035. 1,625 cases made.
The nose has depth richness with ripe black fruits the palate fleshy and supple black plums and cassis. The fleshy richness is balanced by freshness in the middle bright on the back palate the finish though rich with fleshy ripe black plums. 2022-40
Often the biggest and richest of the J-P Moueix Pomerols, this has plenty of structure and fruit weight, complemented by toasty oak, but it still has underlying grace and style with succulent plum and black cherry fruit, a greenish hint and very fine tannins.

The 2014 Trotanoy had (que surprise!) closed down on the nose compared to its JP Moueix stablemates. A few swirls of the glass and it reveals very precise, mineral-soaked black fruit laced with black truffle and subtle sous-bois aromas. It soon gathers momentum and the aromas were gaining more and more intensity after five minutes. The palate is outstanding. There is brilliant structure here, immense and almost staggering purity, incredible focus and tension with an electrifying spiciness on the finish. Best Pomerol of the vintage? The only thing wrong with that last sentence is the question mark at the end. Drink 2024-2055
The Château Trotanoy 2014 is blessed with the most inspiring bouquet with the JP Moueix stable, in no small part to its free-draining gravel soils and incline that would have been so advantageous during the wetter moments of the growing season. There are potent black fruit mixed with warm gravel mixed with black truffle, all extremely well defined and focused - a quintessential Trotanoy in many ways. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannins, layers of black truffle-tinged black and red fruit that steadily build towards that compelling tobacco-tinged finish. In 2014, Trotanoy is a testament to propitious terroir, yet what might distinguish this from other vintages is that it feels more approachable, so its brilliance will hopefully be available to those less inclined to wait 20+ years! It constitutes one of the finest Right Bank wines of 2014, a Trotanoy of authority and breeding. Drink: 2018 - 2040
This is extremely long and concentrated with incredible depth of fruit and structure. Long and chewy. Shows excellent potential.
16.5++
Dark crimson. Lighter nose than some vintages. Very fruity with a rich undertow that almost disguises the tannins. Definitely a lighter wine than usual. Sinewy and sort of aggressively Moueix style! It may take on flesh and may just be a dark horse. The spread on the finish is very impressive. A bit green and sinewy.
