Bâtard Montrachet, Domaine Thomas Morey 2022

Tasting Notes

**Note: from 3 parcels measuring .1914 ha on the Chassagne side; 2 of the parcels measuring .1027 ha are owned and the third is leased**
A highly layered and fresh nose somewhat grudgingly offers up a panoply of white orchard fruit aromas that are laced with hints of lemon-lime and almost as many floral nuances as the Truffière. The rich, suave and powerful broad-shouldered flavors remain surprisingly refined while displaying superb length on the very compact and tightly wound finale that just goes on and on. This strikingly well-balanced finale is packed with potential, but it is presently so primary and backward that I would strongly caution that you not even think about opening a bottle for at least 5 years and 10 would be better. In a word, magnificent.

Fine pale colour. The nose has volume but not too much opulence, feeling a little fatter than a classic Thomas Morey style, but maintaining balance. As is usually the case in 2020, this wine portrays an excellent fruit/acid balance, offering a touch of grapefruit, while the oak is well integrated. This wine is coming forward quite quickly, but delivers fine persistence. Drink from 2025-2032.
