There are only three casks of Clos du Roi this year at Chandon de Briailles, with one barrel new and the other two five to six years of age. This wine is not quite as out of sorts as the Bressandes, but again, there might still be more here than meets the eye. The bouquet is deep, ripe and nascently complex, wafting from the glass in a blend of black cherries, spice tones, vinesmoke, orange peel, game and a fine base of stony soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and plenty solid at the core, with ripe, nicely integrated tannins, sound acids and a very long, chewy and primary finish. Drink between 2025-2075
