A ripe and agreeably fresh nose speaks of red and dark cherry, anise, violet and a whiff of earth. There is fine volume and punch to the intense and focused middle weight plus flavors that possess a nicely refined mouthfeel on the strikingly refreshing finale where a subtle touch of austerity gradually emerges. This firm effort will need at least some patience.
Aromas of peonies, red cherries, plums and warm spices preface the 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Cuvée des Alouettes, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and succulent wine that's seamless and elegant, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins. This, too, has turned out nicely in bottle.
Entirely Monts Luisants, though it can contain declassified Grand Cru. Rich medium purple. Slightly meaty and toasty bouquet. Afterwards, it is much tighter and fresher with some redcurrant notes and really quite fierce acidity. Will need some time to come together.
