The 2022 Morgon Corcelette was reduced when I tasted it from barrel a year ago. Now in bottle, it has an open, expressive bouquet with red berry fruit, orange rind and slate-like aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, taut, fresh and quite spicy with a touch of black pepper on the nicely structured finish. This is a Corcelette that boasts pedigree, but it needs time.
A plot of 0.75ha, planted in 1932, and purchased in January 2021. Much of the work here needs to be done by hand. The vineyard, La Roche Pilée, is on friable pink granite, which contributes to the small size of the berries (I am told!). Medium deep crimson purple. The nose has more depth and more class, dark raspberry with a touch of spice, fills the mouth very nicely, a little sucrosity, the fruit covers the tannic structure. 13.4% alcohol. Drink from 2027-2033.
