DIAM is proving its worth, here. This 2016 remains pale in the glass, with cool, lemon-tinged fruit, green apple and yellow melon tones. There is a flinty edge to the aromatics, good and complementary reduction. The palate is delicate and refined, cool citrus and apple fruit at the core. The same flinty, lightly spicy character comes through. There is a light pithiness from the Semillon, and also just a hint of lanolin, but the texture is silky and fine. This is elegant white Bordeaux, now in a perfect place of maturity to drink over the coming 3-5 years. You can sense the pedigree in this wine, it offers good value for money. The finish lingers with notes of lemon balm and chervil.
The intense, grassy and pithy-lemon aromas, as well as a swathe of fresh herbs, all make for an attractive young wine. The palate has mouthwateringly fresh, lemony acidity and delivers a very energetic, flavorful impression. Second wine of Domaine de Chevalier Blanc. A blend of 60 per cent sauvignon and 40 per cent semillon. Drink or hold.
Starting with the 2019 L'Esprit De Chevalier Blanc, which is the second white of the château, it reveals a light gold hue to go with classy, classic Bordeaux Blanc notes of ripe lemon, honeyed pineapple, spice, and some chalky minerality. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it shows the vibrant, pure, elegant style of the estate and is already hard to resist. It's well worth buying and drinking, especially if it helps you give the top wine a few years in the cellar.
