The 2013 Ermitage Ex Voto is more concentrated as well as structured. Bacon fat, graphite, burning embers, and loads of darker fruits all emerge from this full-bodied, layered, silky Ex Voto that shines for its purity and elegance, all while still packing plenty of fruit. Bottles need 4-5 years, but it’s going to cruise in the cellar two decades.
Showing similar to when I tasted it last year, the 2013 Hermitage Ex Voto has classic charcoal, mineral, peppery herbs and assorted dark fruits to go with a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and nicely structured personality. It’s rich and nicely balanced, yet lacks the sheer weight and density of the 2009 and 2010. Nevertheless, it’s a fabulous looking barrel sample.
