This fresh, vibrant young and complex Block 3 pinot is a powerhouse of ripe red and dark-cherry aromas with striking purity of fruit, framed in sappy freshness. The palate is seamless with such long, finely detailed tannin, carrying really supple and meltingly ripe red and dark cherries. A thing of wonder. This has a wildly fresh, lively fruit core that launches up and expands long on the finish. Superb! Drink now. Screw cap.
The vines for Block 3 were 25 years old at the time of harvest for the 2018, which was bottled just a few weeks before our tasting. Very youthful on the nose, sweet with red and black fruits, deep and yet floral at the same time. There is superb delineation of fruit and spice on the palate - red cherries, dark plums and sweet strawberries. The spice is herbal and lifted, adding a floral sense to the palate. Vibrant, with salt and pepper seasoning to give lipsmacking moreishness on the finish. Long, refined and built to last.
This year, my favorite of the Felton Road releases is the 2018 Block 3 Pinot Noir, which balances the richness and power of the vintage with bright red-fruit flavors and ample complexity. It's medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and muscular without being inelegant, powering to a long, gently dusty finish tinged with cocoa and cola. 2020 - 2032
