Musigny, Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier 2012

Tasting Notes

**Note: made with 60% whole clusters; only 300 bottles were produced in 2012**
A pungent nose combines enough wood to notice with an explosively spicy array of very ripe dark berries, violets, lilac and exotic tea. The medium weight plus flavors are almost painfully intense with superb mid-palate concentration that helps to partially buffer the exceptionally firm, brooding and palate staining finish that goes on and on while brimming with minerality. This possesses knockout potential though note that if you should be lucky enough to obtain a bottle or two of this gem that plenty of patience will be required as it will not be an early drinker.

Christophe told me that there are 1½ barrels of the 2012 Musigny Grand Cru this year. The nose is hauntingly beautiful - not powerful, not ostentatious, but just extraordinarily pure and delineated, the mineral component emerging with time in the glass. After a couple of minutes there are subtle floral scents - dried rose petal that a neatly placed. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, astonishing purity and tension with a faultless finish that makes you wonder whether you should bother tasting Pinot Noir ever. This is heaven in a wine glass.

A pungent nose of enough wood to notice and strong reduction obviously renders this tough to read.
