I always love this base cuvée, and while it doesn't have the power or singular character of the single vineyards, it exudes Bandol character and is always a joy to drink. The 2019 Bandol reveals a healthy ruby, almost opaque hue as well as brilliant aromatics of spiced red and black cherries, sandalwood, dried Mediterranean herbs, and ground white and black pepper, with just some subtle (at this point) background leather, iron, and meaty notes. It will continue to evolve beautifully over the coming 15 years, gaining more exotic, gamey notes, but today it nevertheless has a beautiful mix of spice, game, and ripe fruit. Medium to full-bodied (closer to medium-bodied), it's balanced, has ripe, integrated tannins, solid mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. It's almost impossible not to drink the whole bottle. Enjoy through 2037.
