Meursault Genevrières, Domaine Buisson-Battault 2020

Tasting Notes

The 2020 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru has a pretty nose that feels a little richer and more honeyed in character, though the terroir still comes through and remains well-defined. Custard crèmes and white chocolate elements linger in the background. The palate is well-balanced with commendable purity, a livewire thread of acidity and mineral-driven with satisfying complexity and terroir expression towards the finish. A sense of "contained energy" prevails. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru comes from 0.60-hectares of up to 60-year old vines. It has a fragrant bouquet with light orange blossom and petrichor aromas, taking its time to unfold. The palate is where it's all happening at the moment, lightly spiced with stem ginger and fennel, gaining depth towards the finish. This will vie with the Charmes for supremacy.
