The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is brilliant, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, peonies, sweet spices, rose petals and forest floor. Full-bodied, seamless and enveloping, it's elegant and sensual, with an ample core of vibrant, concentrated fruit and a long, expansive finish. Suave and harmonious, it's the finest Charmes from Dugat-Py that I've ever tasted from barrel.
**Note: a blend of one-third Mazoyères and two-thirds Charmes proper - the fruit comes from a mix of mostly 20+ year-old vines and a small percentage of extremely old vines; 60% stems**
Cool, pure and engagingly floral-suffused nose that reflects additional notes of both red and dark currant and earth. The lilting yet powerful middle weight flavors possess very fine mid-palate density as well as good minerality on the bitter cherry pit-inflected finale. This gorgeous effort needs more depth, but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur.
