Corton Renardes, Domaine Michel Gaunoux 2005

This is less elegant but more complex still than the '05 Grand Epenots with very ripe notes of plum and dark berry fruit along with the classic animale undertones. The big-bodied flavors possess the same highly sophisticated mouth feel with excellent mid-palate concentration as well as an abundance of extract that largely, if not completely, buffers the almost chewy but not rustic finish. There is an opulence to this wine but make no mistake, this is a very serious wine that is unapologetically built to age. Note: (from a .63 ha parcel).
