Carravilla, Dominio d'Es 2019

Tasting Notes

The new single-vineyard 2019 Carravilla is mostly Tempranillo with some Albillo, like all the old vineyards, and has been aging in two Burgundy bottles since early November 2019. It is from a south-facing plot with a very high limestone content and fermented with indigenous yeasts. It's 14.5% alcohol, from a ripe year. This is super aromatic and showy, but it keeps the freshness. This has the highest content in calcium carbonate from all the zones within the village. This is the first vintage for this wine from a plot that used to contribute to the Viñas Viejas blend. It showed incredibly well, with the wild side and the texture form the limestone, taking the oak nicely and with more freshness.

Dark-berry, ink, cigar and blackberries aromas follow through to a full body with chewy tannins that are powerful and intense. Yet, there’s polish and focus to it all. One for the cellar. Try after 2023.
