Noticeable reduction detracts mildly from the otherwise ripe and earthy red berry fruit aromas. The rich, concentrated and brooding large-scaled flavors ooze extract that buffers the very firm tannic spine and confers a relatively refined mouth feel on the velvety, balanced and patently persistent finish. There is outstanding phenolic maturity with absolutely zero trace of excessive fruit ripeness. Note: from both Charmes and Mazoyères. Drink: 2025+
The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin (from a parcel in Mazoyeres) bursts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, spices, mint and licorice. The aromas and flavors here are beautifully pointed and nuanced. The 2010 boasts striking inner perfume all the way through to the enveloping seductive, finish. Frederic Magnien reports 80% of this parcel ripened with shot berries. This is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from Frederic Magnien. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.
