Tasting Notes

The 2021 Chardonnay Clonal Selection Elgin is simply one of the best South African articulations of this grape variety that you will find. The nose is just perfectly controlled, quite Burgundian in style. It plays with a very subtle reduction, underneath which lies Golden Delicious, hints of beeswax and crushed stone. The palate has exquisite balance and depth, with notes of orange pith and grapefruit that dovetail into a slightly richer, creamier-textured finish, maintaining the salinity that makes you beg for more. Brilliant. Drinking Window: 2024 – 2034

Showing what Richard Kershaw MW calls the "tighter belt of acidity" of the 2021 Cape whites, this Elgin Chardonnay is made with 21 batches from 11 separate sites. Fermented in one-third new wood with 15% malolactic, it has beeswax and oatmeal top notes, tangerine and citrus zest fruit and a dollop of crème fraîche. Drinking Window 2023-28
