Barbaresco Cru Rizzi, Cantina Rizzi 2021

Tasting Notes

17++. Alba. Pale youthful ruby. Sweetly perfumed red fruit that jumps out of the glass. Elegant palate with a core of juicy red fruit framed by finely chiselled yet gripping tannins. Great balance and super-attractive tannic bite on the finish. 2024-2034.

Good medium dark red. Deep and spicy on the nose with scents of red cherry, flint, and raspberry nectar. This medium-bodied wine is quite tangy and penetrating today with lively but harmonious acidity so that it avoids coming off as hard. Very clean and mineral on the very long, piercing red fruit and violet-accented close. Drinking window: 2028-2038.

A medium ruby/pinkish hue, the 2021 Barbaresco Rizzi is floral and fruity, with notes of baked strawberries, fresh flowers, peach, and orange. Medium-bodied and bright, it’s well-balanced, with a savory touch of orange pith through the finish, offering a nice snap to the delicately ripe red fruit and clean finish. It’s a very appealing and charming entry to the range from Rizzi. Drink over the next 6-7 years.

The 2021 Rizzi Barbaresco from Rizzi has attractive aromas of iris, menthol, dark spice and pine forest. It’s linear and youthfully austere, offering flavors of cranberry, blood orange, star anise and ground clove wrapped in tightly wound, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2028–2036.

A bright pale red in the glass, the nose to the Cru Rizzi has beautifully pure cranberry, red berry and fresh rose notes on the nose - a perfumed, elegant wine. The palate has bundles of energy, slick with fine but persistent tannins, harmonious acidity and moreish, very bright fruit. Lipsmacking acids and crunchy red fruits make this an immediate, moreish and delicious Barbaresco - one you can drink already.
