The Château Les Ormes de Pez 2005 has that typical brash and brawny bouquet with powerful, burly red berry fruit, scorched earth and bay leaf. The palate is full-bodied with firm tannin, a pleasant edginess on the entry, a ferrous Saint Estèphe with plenty of spice box and bacon fat aromas towards the stocky, broad-shouldered finish. This cru is often a bit of a bruiser in its youth so put this down in the bunker for another 8 to 10 years.
Tasted blind. Dense and complex. Round and correct with freshness, ripe fruit and fine tannins.
Drink 2015-2030
Tasted single blind at Southwold. Reticent on the nose: dense tarry black fruits, touches of roasted herbs and graphite. Nice purity though and that opens up with aeration, allowing more figgy/damson aromas to show through. The palate is full-bodied, good ripeness and fruit concentration, good acidity, backward and dense but with assertive black tarry fruit on the finish. Could only be a Saint Estephe. Showing great precision and charm but it will need time. Drink 2015-2030. Tasted January 2009.
Lovely spice berry and currant aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a silky, fruity finish. Very balanced. Almost 89-91.
Mid ruby. Scented and stony on the nose. Pretty austere but classic of its appellation. Very dry on the finish and without quite enough flesh. 13%
