If you have not tasted Duncan Savage’s wines, I advise addressing that as soon as possible. Bona fide, world class wines that are a thrill-a-minute

Neal Martin, Vinous

"Duncan Savage thinks he hasn't hit his full potential yet. Heaven help his rivals when he does."

Tim Atkin MW

We have just received our allocation of the new releases from Duncan Savage, one of South Africa’s most sought-after and acclaimed producers.

On Neal Martin’s visit to the Cape in September this year, he recounts how his visit to Savage’s urban cellar in Cape Town was “one of the most impressive tastings of my entire trip” and that Savage’s range “epitomize the heights that South African wines are now achieving” – some achievement given the 600+ wines from over 120 producers that he tasted.

Savage made his mark on the South African wine scene whilst working as head winemaker at Sauvignon Blanc specialist Cape Point Vineyards.  Having worked with and learnt from the legend Didier Dagueneau, Savage brought an old-world angle and subtlety to the wines of Cape Point and amassed an impressive roster of awards in his time there.  Starting his eponymous project in 2011, Savage seeks out exposed, coastal and high elevation sites, producing wines where freshness, elegance and terroir expression are a given. The results are “bona fide, world class wines that are a thrill-a-minute” according to Martin.

2024 marks the 12th release from Savage, focussing on the 2023 vintage with one 2022 in the form of the longer aged Savage Red.  2023 is a vintage that Savage is a fan of: a cooler growing season resulting in pure and focussed wines that will drink well when young but also reward over the years to come.
