Sassiciaia: the first and probably the most renowned Super Tuscan (and the only one to have its own appellation) was conceived in the 1920s by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, whose family still own and run the Tenuta San Guido estate. First planted in the 1940s, it remained a “family only” wine until its first commercial release in 1968. After a brilliant debut quality was patchy throughout the 1970s though improvements and focus in the winery saw the wine develop into one of Italy’s finest wines, culminating in the legendary 100-point 1985 Sassicaia.
Since then Sassicaia has become firmly established as one of the World’s great wines, with demand to match. Our current listings are below, and you can see all of our Super Tuscan listings HERE.
