Nuits St Georges Clos des Grandes Vignes (rouge), Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair 2017

Tasting Notes

This too is really quite pretty and pure with its relatively high-toned aromas of various flowers, essence of red cherry and soft earth wisps. The vibrant and utterly delicious if not particularly concentrated medium weight flavors deliver possess an appealing and relatively refined mouthfeel thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the youthfully austere finale. (Drink starting 2027)

The 2017 Clos des Grandes Vignes was just a touch reductive when first served, but the wine opens up quite briskly with just a bit of swirling and shows outstanding potential. The bouquet is pure and loaded with sappy fruit, delivering scents of sweet dark berries, black cherries, bitter chocolate, venison, dark soil tones, nutskin, vanillin oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, sappy and soil-driven, with fine-grained tannins, excellent focus and grip and a long, nascently complex and very, very promising finish. (Drink between 2025-2065)
