An expressive and cool nose combines notes of spice, violet and herbal tea with those of both red and dark currant. There is a sleeker texture to the less seductive but more powerful and generous medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent mid-palate density that adds a sense of weight to the noticeably more tightly wound finish that offers better depth and persistence. This should amply reward a decade plus of cellaring and will need at least 5 to 7 years first. (Drink starting 2029)
Louis Michel’s 2017 Suchots is an extremely elegant wine this year. The bouquet is excellent, wafting from the glass in a complex and vibrant blend of black raspberries, dark berries, duck, bonfire, Vosne spices, a fine base of dark soil tones and nutty new wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, pure and refined, with a good sappy core, modest tannins and a long, complex and beautifully delineated finish. Fine juice. (Drink between 2022-2055)
