Griotte Chambertin, Domaine Joseph Roty 2018

Tasting Notes

(Domaine Joseph Roty Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Red) A very ripe nose features a menthol top note to the black cherry, raspberry, earth and pretty spice nuances that are also trimmed in enough wood to mention. There is fine volume and power to the big but refined flavors that conclude in a bitter cherry pit-inflected finish that flashes a hint of warmth. This overtly mineral-driven effort is caressing but powerful and a wine that should also age effortlessly for years. (Drink starting 2036)

The 2018 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing beautifully, mingling aromas of cherries, raspberries and plums with hints of rose petals, spices and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, supple and enveloping, it's charming but serious, with a concentrated core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, expansive finish.

(Griottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Joseph Roty, Red) Full bright clear purple, a lighter spring to this, with excellent intensity, an iron rich feel to it, or perhaps a steeliness to the texture. Very linear, very pure, exceptionally intense.
