Griotte Chambertin, Domaine Joseph Roty 2019

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is perfumed and sensual, bursting with aromas of plums, Indian spices, sweet red berries, anise and orange rind. Full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a broad attack and a layered core of fruit, it's framed by melting tannins and succulent acids. This has turned out brilliantly.

(Griottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Joseph Roty, Red) Deep rich royal purple. This has a concentration and a class over and above the Mazy. A riot of deep raspberry fruit, with some blacker notes at the finish, the oak really well integrated, the lightest point of acidity, overall an intense and coherent whole with fine persistence.

(Domaine Joseph Roty Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Red) A notably cool and more elegant, as well as markedly spicy nose also features liqueur-like aromas of red cherry, black raspberry, cassis and subtle floral and warm earth hints. There is a polished mouthfeel to the delicious and nicely vibrant middle weight flavors that possess superb length and beautiful depth on the overtly austere built-to-age finish. This isn't as powerful as the Mazy but it's notably finer. Excellent. (Drink starting 2034)
