The 2010 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry, a subtle seawater scent that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, packed full of blackcurrant and cranberry. There is a trademark leafiness that develops towards the firm, structured finish with traces of black tea on the aftertaste. Give this another two or three years in bottle. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte.
**Note: a 3.5 ha monopole with 30+ year old vines**
Reduction dominates the nose. By contrast to the funky nose, there is a lovely inner mouth perfume to the precise, intense and vibrant middle weight plus flavors that possess good volume. There is admirable persistence on the quite firm finish that is at once pure and actually rather refined, which is not always the case with this wine. Worth a look.
