Tasting Notes

This is a successful vintage for Ausone, which produced a wine with nearly 13% natural alcohol. Surprisingly ripe, with the exotic, mineral-scented character so typical of this property, the 1987 Ausone is a medium-bodied, ripe, richly fruity, classy wine that should drink beautifully for another 12-20 years. If it continues to firm up and gain weight in the bottle, it may turn out to be as good as their wonderful 1976, as well as have 20 or more years of aging potential. A sleeper! Anticipated maturity: now-2015. Last tasted, 5/02.
