Albariño, Zarate 2019

Tasting Notes

The eponymous 2019 Zárate is their entry-level Albariño, a vintage with structure and acidity, still very young, a powerful vintage with more of everything and probably a long-distance runner. It's varietal and clean, characterful, powerful and with a long, tasty finish, vibrant and almost salty. 64,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2020. Drink 2020-2024

Vibrant lemon in colour, the nose too is effusive of ripe lemons, with a hint of freshly squeezed lime. There is a lovely hint of saline minerality, adding savour and depth. The palate is initially rich and ripe, with a pithy, generous texture cut by textbook Albarino acidity. This drives the lively, lime and uzu palate, with a savoury briney hint always in the background. This moreish, fresh and yet juicy white is perfect to drink now. It will continue to drink well over the next 2-3 years, gaining more savoury edge and rounding out its edges.
