Slightly more evident but not really intrusive wood stops just short of fighting with the mix of red and black cherry, earth, anise and violet-scented aromas. There is excellent concentration to the overtly powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract that imparts a sappy mouth feel to the firm, robust and relatively compact finale. At least some patience will be required and this should reward up to a decade of cellaring.
