Charmes Chambertin, Domaine des Varoilles 2015

Tasting Notes

Here the wood treatment is no longer subtle with its heavy wood and menthol elements that detract somewhat from the very ripe aromas of cassis, plum liqueur, spice and warm earth scents. There is impressive concentration and mid-palate density to the generously proportioned big-bodied flavors that possess an opulent mouth feel before culminating in a sappy and slightly warm finish. This is borderline too ripe because while it doesn't lose its balance, it lacks the same focus and vivacity compared to the best in the range. While there is nothing amiss here per se, this isn't for me
