Vosne Romanee Suchots, Domaine Sylvain Cathiard 2002

Tasting Notes

This too is very spicy but cut with noticeable floral notes and the flavors are slightly deeper, richer and even longer. Curiously, given the significant difference in vines ages, this is not as dense as the Reignots but the balance is perfect. A stunner of a wine.

The 2002 Les Suchots from Cathiard is turning into a little beauty. The nose is very complex with subtle sous-bois scents furnishing the detailed red currant and red cherry fruit. It seems linear at first but then opens up and gains depth. The palate is very well-balanced, the 100% new oak now fully assimilated and lending this Suchots weight and length without impeding that exuberant Suchots character. Feel free to broach bottles now, though I think this has more to give in the future. Drink now-2020+.
