Chalky mineral notes, an angular personality, and a dark ruby/purple color with some sweet and sour cherry notes with lots of earth and tough tannins raise concerns about how well this wine will age over the next decade. It certainly will last, given its structural profile.
The 2006 Château Berliquet has a rather light, slightly smudged bouquet of earthy red berry fruit mixed with cigar and chalky scents. It is pleasurable, but there is something almost ephemeral about these aromatics. The palate is medium bodied with brusque, quite dry tannin. This Berliquet feels severe in the mouth and tapers quite sharply on the finish. My inclination is that any bottles should be consumed in the near future.
An aromatic nose of ripe blueberry and black cherry with a hint of cassis. The palate is smooth and ripe with no hard edges, there is a really nice plushness to the dense fruit core. This is black fruit dominated with a touch of spice and soft integrated tannins. A modern-style Bordeaux which is delicious to drink now.
