Tasting Notes

A dry white wine made from two-thirds Semillon and one-third Sauvignon from the vineyards of Yquem, Ygrec was first introduced in 1959, and around 1,000 cases are produced each year. An exquisite white Bordeaux, while it does possess a high level of residual sugar (8%-9%), 90% of the people who taste it would say it is completely dry because of its high acids and low pH. A brilliant effort, the 2012 was harvested between September 25 and October 25. It should drink well for 8-12 years.

Robert Parker, RobertParker.com (214), August 2014

2012 is the first vintage since 1992 that Yquem have not produced a sweet wine. However, conditions were good for those wanting to make dry whites, and the Ygrec showcases the potential for quality in this vintage. Pale lemon in appearance with a tinge of green, the wine is aromatic with fresh gooseberry, citrus, peach and a slight hint of vanilla. The palate is medium bodied and vibrant with crisp acidity providing great balance. More gooseberry, green apple and some passion fruit shine through together with a slight toastiness and a touch of vanilla. The wine has real poise and the long, fresh finish rounds off a very good example of Yquem's skill in making dry wine.
