The Benromach distillery was founded in 1898 and, as with most distilleries, it did not have a smooth history, with several closures and sales before it was mothballed in 1983. Ten years later it was acquired by Gordon & MacPhail and today it is thriving once again and can lay claim to being the smallest distillery (by number of staff and production) in Speyside.
