Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Domaine Armand Rousseau 1995

Tasting Notes

Superbly spiced and now mostly secondary aromas explode from the glass and lead to wonderfully concentrated flavors of impressive depth and excellent balance for such a big, structured and powerful wine. The length though is what separates this wine from most ‘95s it just goes on and on. As to drinkability, the nose is now all but fully mature though there is some of the typical '95 style structure on the backend and thus this will hold for another 30+ years. For my taste this is knocking on the door of its peak drinkability though another 2 to 3 years of cellar time will help to round the edges off of the supporting structure. By coincidence I happen to have the ’95 Bèze from magnum and even as good as this is from 750 ml, it was eye-opening to see just how good it is from magnum (see the database for that review). Drink 2017+

Superbly spice aromas just explode from the glass leads to wonderfully concentrated flavors of impressive depth and simply incredible balance for such a big, structured, powerful wine. The length though is what separates this wine from the "merely" great and it just goes on and on. The material here is so good that it would not surprise me if this eventually merits an even higher score as this is a most impressive effort and it has the rare gift of presence, something very few wines have even at the highest levels. In sum, this is killer juice.
