Tasting Notes

The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py, matured in used barrels, has a more complex bouquet than the Corcelette: a melange of red and black fruit, potpourri/lavender, and a faint hint of curry leaf that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and a fine backbone considering the growing season. This is very fresh and saline with quite a strict finish. You could attempt this now though I would be intrigued to age this for another two or three years before broaching. Drink 2025-2038.

Here there is enough reduction to blur the nuances of the spicy red berry fruit-suffused nose. Otherwise, there is a lovely sense of verve to the medium weight flavors that possess a succulent mid-palate that terminates in a powerful, robust and borderline rustic finale. This compact effort is also sneaky long and a wine that should age well too.

Paler in colour than in recent years, the 2021 Côte du Py from Foillard is an absolute delight. Transparent ruby in the glass with an intense and vibrant nose, layering raspberry, cherry blossom and fresh strawberries together with just a hint of rosemary. The palate is bursting with crunchy red fruits and lively, refreshing acidity. Lipsmacking and moreish already, it is an absolute joy to drink now. The tannins are fine with a slight bite, adding textural intrigue without being obtrusive. Coming in at 12.5% alcohol, it is sappy, fine and very elegant. Deceptively long and serious, it wears its pedigree easily this year - you can still age this wine. A very fine, delicious vintage here.
