I tasted the initial vintage of the village red 2015 Valdecañada from a magnum. It's a Mencía-based field blend from different vineyards in the village that names the wine. This is quite round and quite Bierzo, a vintage with 10% to 15% white Palomino in the wine, where the schist and slate is less obvious on the nose but more noticeable in the texture. I tasted the 2016, 2018 and 2019 vintages of this wine next to it, as they are all going to be sold now, mostly to Pearl of Burgundy importers in Hong-Kong, Singapore, Israel and Canada. It's quite polished, but the project is for wines without edges to start with. 1,200 bottles produced.
