An incredible story that is matched by what is in the glass. On 14th July 2021 devastating floods destroyed vineyards, roads and buildings in the Ahr region, and completely flooden Stodden's cellar. This wiped records of which wines were in each barrel. Hans Oliver brought his entire vineyard team to help Alexander rescue his vineyards after the flood. Hans meanwhile tasted with Alexander in his flooded cellar to determine which wine was which. From wines which elevated themselves above the rest, this blend is almost certainly from old vine fruit that would typically go into Stodden's "J" and "JS" bottlings, as well as some Grosses Gewachs wines. Mid ruby-garnet colour, the nose here is rich and evocative with dark fruit as well as red, with a real presence of measured wood smoke. Highly floral and layered, this is a very complex and deep wine on the palate. Ripe and fine tannins are persistent and lightly chalky - this is a serious wine of great depth and it is clear some GG fruit made the blend here. Black tea and remarkably dark fruit linger on a very long finish.
