Barbaresco Pajore, Cantina Rizzi 2019

Tasting Notes

Love the aromas of wild berry, star anise, leather and meat juices on this full-bodied red. Elegantly structured and delicious, the palate shows succulent red berry, baking spice, crushed mint and a hint of grilled Porcini alongside firm, refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it beautifully balanced. Drink 2025–2034.

Whilst this Pajoré is still generous when compared to other producers - i.e., it has the Rizzi sheen and gloss as well as plenty of fruit - there is little doubt that this is the wine of the range to buy and hold, rather than to drink young. It has the hallmark Rizzi ripeness, but the structure masks the fruit somewhat and that cannot be said for any of the other wines in the range. No doubt that will melt into the wine as time goes on but for now, it is one to tuck away. Drink 2025-2035+

Treiso. Just mid ruby. A gorgeous ripe raspberry nose spiked with minerally notes. Perfumed, sweet and focused raspberry fruit on the palate, beautifully balanced by fresh acidity and coating tannins. Very long and elegant with aromatic depth on the finish. 14.5%. Drink 2022 – 2032
