Gevrey Chambertin Coeur du Roy, Domaine Dugat-Py 2020

Tasting Notes

A super-fresh and distinctly earthy aromas are comprised by notes of cassis and dark berry fruit liqueur. The dense, serious and mouth coating flavors possess a beguiling texture thanks to the abundance of dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm tannic spine shaping the strikingly long finish. This is flat out terrific and it's rare to see villages-level Gevrey at this level.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roy is a rich, muscular wine, but it's much more elegant and structurally refined than was the case only a few years ago. Offering up aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with dark chocolate, warm spices, black truffles and burning embers, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety, with striking concentration—old, low-yielding Pinot Fin in top lieux-dits ensures that—and a seamless, complete profile.
