Notes of menthol, dark cherry, earth and subtle anise hints serve as a complex introduction to the generously proportioned, concentrated and relatively powerful middle weight flavors. The supporting structure is not quite as imposing but it's still notably firm on the solidly persistent and complex finish. Lovely.
The 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux has a generous, soft and fleshy patisserie-tinged bouquet, the oak needing to be subsumed down the line. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and well-judged acidity, building in the mouth and finishing with some style and precision. Very impressive.
