The 2019 Monthélie 1er Cru Les Clous needs time to come together, but its raw materials are impressive. Mingling notes of cassis and smoky plums with hints of rose petal and toasty oak, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with powdery tannins and lively acids.
A more elegant and cooler nose speaks of various red berries, lavender and a whiff of anise. The delicious, round and caressing flavors possess good verve and reasonably good detail while delivering fine persistence on the dusty and again, moderately austere finale that flashes just a bit more depth. Lovely and understated.
Mid garnet. Light, pure and very Monthelie on the nose. No more than medium weight and nicely balanced. No shortage of acidity but I think this should age pretty well. Bright, crunchy fruit.
