Here too there is just enough reduction to push what appears to be notably ripe fruit to the background. On the plus side there is quite a bit more volume, concentration and muscle to the big-bodied flavors that deliver excellent length on the finish that also displays bitter lemon hints. The nose will probably clean up if this is cellared for a few years first and my rating assumes that will be the case.
The 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has fresh and seemingly early-picked, more malic scents compared to its peers: the cooking apple and flint are, dare I say, almost Chablis-like in style! The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This taut, linear Corton-Charlemagne offers plenty of energy and intensity and a satisfying saline finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
