From a site contiguous to the Mâcon-Bussières source that bears the same name, the 2020 Saint-Véran Vigne de Saint-Claude delivers notes of crisp orchard fruit, pastry cream, nutmeg and beeswax. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, with a lively core of fruit and a long, mineral finish, it has turned out very well.
This parcel is located in the commune of Prissé. The vines are roughly 50 years old, with clay-limestone and very stony soils. Only free run juice was used, with fermentation in barrels of which 25% were new. Fermentation finished at the end of December and the ageing in barrels lasted 6 more months. A lot of stirring of the lees was done to balance the bright acidity in this wine. There is a good savoury hit from the lees work on the nose here, bringing fresh nut and cream alongside bright pear fruit. The palate is chalky, layering crisp citrus fruit with fleshier poached pear. There is a streak of bright acidity that brings everything together, adding tension and precision to a long, refined finish.
