Tasting Notes

The 2020 Mâcon-Bussières Vignes de Montbrison is lively and charming, mingling aromas of green apple, pastry cream, vanilla pod and warm bread. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's textural and charming, with lively acids and a saline finish.

This parcel is located next to the village of Vergisson and therefore vines in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The exposure is predominantly East with clay-limestone soils laden with pebbles. The vines are 40 years old. In 2020 the plot was harvested with a 5-day delay between the two "tries", to obtain a perfect ripeness of all the grapes. The free run juices were vinified in barrels, of which 25% were new. Fermentation lasted until the end of November. Ageing was also in barrels, for 8 months with frequent lees stirring. An excellent showing this year, full of ripe peach and apricot fruit on both the nose and palate. There is an additional layer of sweet spice that is subtle and fragrant in the background. This is creamy and open, a perfect introduction to Jean-Marie's wines this year, finding a seductive approachability while retaining ample freshness. Excellent.
