Vosne Reignots, Domaine Jean Grivot 2013

Tasting Notes

Bright, dark red. Deep, inviting aromas of red raspberry, minerals and flavors complicated by an element of noble vegetility. Juicy and penetrating in the mouth, conveying terrific sappy intensity and lift to its crunchy red fruit, floral and mineral flavors. Still youthfully linear but already hinting at the glories to come. The most sophisticated of these 2013s to this point.

A very toasty nose displays a hint of cigarette ash though there is a broad array of spice elements to the black cherry liqueur and violet scents. The exceptionally rich and suave flavors possess a velvety mouth feel where an intense mineral streak adds lift to the lush finale where the wood resurfaces. While this is certainly a seductive effort it is carrying a lot of wood, indeed to the point that I'm not convinced that it will ever be able to fully integrate all of it. To be sure this is a perfectly good wine, it's just a markedly toasty one.
