Tasting Notes

Bright lemon in colour. A gorgeous, sweet, open and honied nose. Hints of crème brulee and barley sugar. Citrus and marmalade come through initially on the palate. Plush and richly textured with apricot and peach coming through. Clean cut and fresh thanks to lip-smacking acidity, with a long and mineral, enduring finish.

Gold reflections glimmer in this amber-colored sweet wine that has aromas of apricot, yellow peach and Bartlett pear. The palate shows flavors of acacia honey, canned apricot and Anjou pear. The finish has enough acidity to stand up to the sweetness.

Royal Tokaji has been making the 5 puttonyos style since 1990. The Blue Label is made with at least 90% Furmint and a touch of Hárslevelű, with berries mainly sourced from the producer’s long-term contract growers. Golden in colour, the 2016 vintage bursts with dried apricot, peach, fig honey and Osmanthus, tinted with beeswax and pepper. After aging in second or third-use Hungarian oak casks for two years, the palate displays spiced apricot and honeyed fig flavours, with Furmint’s tell-tale acidity spine (9.9g/l), followed by a lip-smacking spicy finish. Sugar level sits at 158 g/l, much higher than the 120 g/l hallmark for 5 puttonyos. Drinking Window 2020 - 2025

TA 9.9 g/l, RS 158 g/l.
Bright gold colour. Honeyed apricots and dried peaches with accents of marmalade and exotic spices on the nose. Great concentration of fleshy stone fruits at the core, with glossy honey and sweet vanilla adding to the complexity. Sweet without any sense of stickiness, this is fresh, vibrant and lifted on a long and sumptuous finish. Very, very moreish – the perfect wine to introduce someone to Tokaji. 2020 – 2032
