Charmes Chambertin, Domaine Claude Dugat 2018

Tasting Notes

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has turned out brilliantly, wafting from the glass with a compelling bouquet of cherries, wild berries, peonies, dark chocolate, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, its fleshy core of fruit is built around powdery tannins and succulent acids, complemented by inviting sapid nuance. I'm very happy to have several bottles aging in my cellar.

This too is quite fresh and particularly so for the vintage with its elegant blend of mostly red berries and newly turned earth though there are pretty spice wisps lurking in the background. The freshness extends to the palate as well of the slightly bigger if less mineral-driven flavors that also possess an abundance of sappy dry extract that buffers the even firmer tannic spine shaping the impressively long if definitely compact, austere and structured finish. I wouldn't advise touching a bottle before 10 years.
