Tasting Notes

Aromas of pear, peach, wheat toast and pastry cream introduce the 2019 Saint-Véran Vigne de Saint-Claude, a medium to full-bodied, elegantly fleshy wine with a nicely concentrated core of sun-kissed fruit, lively acids and a nicely defined finish.

This plot is located in the village of Prissé but it is very close to the vineyards of Pouilly-Fuissé from Vergisson. This vines are about 50 years old, the soil is clay-limestone and very stony. This cuvée is composed only of free run juice fermented only in barrels with 25 % new oak. The fermentions ended at the end of December and the wine was matured in barrel for an additional six months. A lot of batonnage were carried out because of the very nice acidity present in this wine. Pale lemon in the glass. Toasted, peppery spice and sweet pear come through on this creamy, ripe nose. The palate has a chalky texture with bright, mouthwatering acidity to cut through the ripe stone fruits at the core. There is a nice interplay between viscosity and tension here, building to a long finish that is both ripe and mineral at the same time.
