Grands Echézeaux, Domaine d'Eugénie 2018

Tasting Notes

Vibrant imperial purple with a more joyous nose than the Clos de Vougeot. Brilliant fruit on the palate, really lovely fully ripe but sensational raspberry with a good thread of acidity, loads of layers, a touch of sucrosity but balanced and long, excellent detail of acidity. Frédéric Engerer did not think this was showing as well as it had been, but I thought it was absolutely fantastic! Tasted: November 2019

A more restrained nose reflects notes of wild red and dark fruit with plenty of spice and floral elements that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The broader-shouldered and more powerful flavors possess solid if not truly exceptional mid-palate density along with a highly beguiling texture before terminating in a dusty, mouthcoating and impressively persistent finish. As is usually the case this is quite firm and will need all of 15 years, perhaps even more, to realize its full potential. Drink: 2033+
Note: from a .50 ha parcel with vines that range from 20 to 60 years of age with the average being about 25 years old
