Echézeaux, Domaine d'Eugénie 2018
A subtle but not invisible application of wood is present on the ripe but quite fresh aromas of poached plum, sandalwood and orange pekoe tea. The sleek, intense and very well-detailed medium-bodied flavors possess a gorgeous mouthfeel thanks to the fine grained tannins supporting the sneaky long finish. This is lovely and very well-balanced. Drink: 2030+

60% whole bunch and 6 new barrels out of 8. Dense rich black Nearly some chocolate, explosive, almost black fruit. Hyper concentrated all in black but balanced. We will need to wait and see how much detail emerges and whether this will capture the characteristic delicacy of Echezeaux. Tasted: November 2019

The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru includes 60% whole cluster. It has a very detailed, mineral-driven bouquet of black cherry, briar, wet limestone and subtle wilted rose petal aromas - perhaps the most elegant that the domaine has produced... and in this kind of growing season! The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a little chalky at the moment, and the 75% new oak is nicely integrated. The crisp, slightly compact finish will need some time. Maybe the Aux Brûlées has a touch more refinement, but this is still an impressive Echézeaux.
